Spectre Ops is a hidden movement game — a genre where one player knows exactly where they are and everyone else is trying to figure it out. It is one of the most tense experiences you can have around a table, and it does something unusual: it makes both sides of the asymmetry feel genuinely interesting.

How it works

One player is the Agent — a covert operative who has infiltrated a facility. They track their own position on a separate hidden map, recording each move in secret. They have three objectives to destroy inside the facility and must then reach an extraction point.

The other players are Hunters — special operatives with unique abilities, moving through the shared visible map, looking for signs of the Agent’s presence. When a Hunter enters a room the Agent has recently passed through, they find a footprint. When they enter the same space as the Agent, combat begins.

The Agent wins by completing all three objectives and extracting. The Hunters win by reducing the Agent’s health to zero before they escape.

What makes it special

The Agent’s experience is one of constant threat management. Every move is a decision: the fastest route or the safer one? Do you destroy this objective now and risk revealing your position, or circle back later? You are always aware that Hunters are closing in — you just don’t know from which direction.

The Hunters’ experience is the inverse: deduction and coordination under incomplete information. Figuring out where the Agent has been, anticipating where they are going, and trying to herd rather than simply chase.

Both experiences are genuinely engaging, which is rarer than it sounds in asymmetric games.

The solo Agent option

Spectre Ops works particularly well with one Agent player against a group of Hunters, making it a natural fit for events where one person wants to be in the spotlight — or on the run. The Agent role is memorable in a way that lingers.

Best for

Groups who want something tense and strategic. Works well for groups that include one player who enjoys being the underdog. An excellent choice for groups who have played Catan and Carcassonne and want something with a sharper edge.
